Reading

Boredom Reading

So on Tuesday, I went around town going to two different public libraries to track down some books. I’ve always wanted to get into a habit of reading for leisure, but I told myself I needed to read my textbooks first, which never happened. Now that I’m done with school I can read whatever I want.

So these are the books I checked out:

It seemed like many people read How to Kill a Mockingbird in high school according to the internet, but I never did.

Journey Home is actually the second part to a story about a girl named Yuki and her experience in the 1940s Japanese concentration camps. The first part is Journey to Topaz, which I just finished a few weeks ago. I actually read both books in fourth grade.

I googled a list of classic books that were typically read during grade school and Lois Lowery’s Number the Stars popped up. I actually recall seeing the book in one of my sisters’ room. Perhaps they’ve read it during school.

I picked up Kate and YELL-Oh Girls! just for the hell of it. I’m not sure if I’ll get to both of them.

I’m actually trying to reread books that I recall reading in school before university so these are next on my list:

  1. Island of Blue Dolphins (4th grade)
  2. A Raisin in the Sun (9th grade)
  3. Othello (10th grade)
  4. Lord of the Flies (10th grade)
  5. A Walk to Remember (10th grade)*
  6. The Great Gatsby (11th grade)
  7. Animal Farm (11th grade)
  8. Star Girl (12th grade)*
  9. Lovely Bones (12th grade)*

That’s all I can remember. The ones with an * just means that I read that for pleasure/silent sustained reading (SSR). I don’t think I’ll reread Othello or Star Girl since I don’t really care for them but I thought I would just include them in the list. I do remember reading The Hobbit in 8th grade but no way in hell am I touching that book. I don’t even want to watch the movie. Here’s another list of books that I would like to read:

  1. Pieces of You
  2. Catch-22
  3. Mindless Eating
  4. A Song of Ice and Fire series
  5. Harry Potter series
  6. The Secret Life of Salvador Dali

Pieces of You is by Korean rapper Tablo of the trio Epik High. It’s consists of 10 fictional short stories that he wrote during college. There’s no particular reason why I want to read it. I just want to check out his writing. He’s also coming out with another book that I believe will be titled Blonotes. I’ll have to wait a bit for that one since the Korean version will come out first. I’ve checked out the public library catalog for Pieces of You and it looks like if I want to dig in, I’m going to have to buy it. It’s on Amazon for $16.99 so we’ll see if I actually go through with it.

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller just because I’ve heard that it’s a classic.

Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink because it was recommended by Jenn Im. It’s one of those lifestyle books which I have never read before so I’ll see how it goes. I also have it on hold, waiting for me at the library.

I have A Game of Thrones, the first book from the A Song of Ice and Fire series, already in my possession but I have yet to finish it. I’m just stuck on one of Bran’s chapter. He’s so dull. I don’t like reading his section.

I want to reread/finish the Harry Potter series. I got up half way to book 5 in 9th grade and it was just too long. I think I stopped at the part where they were at the quidditch games. Shit, wasn’t that in the beginning? lol

I bought The Secret Life of Salvador Dali a couple months ago so I should be compelled to open it. I’ve honestly only read the first few pages when I first got my hands on it.

Wow, can this post BE any longer?
